There is a debate going on. Would you prefer a great house in bad neighborhood or a bad house in a good neighborhood? I would definitely prefer a good house in a good neighborhood. Some people don’t like condos because of association dues.
If you are raising kids you would definitely want to raise them in a good neighborhood. If you live in a good neighborhood but your house is bad consider carrying out repairs. Renovate the house. Many years ago newly wedded couples acquired houses through mortgages in neighborhoods and lived there till well past retirement.
